Tweet from twitter @ iPhoneMania_jp February 10, 2021 08:41 Approximately 2 minutes 11 seconds How to operate the user accurately and realistically when using a virtual reality (VR) headset Whether to detect it is a big issue. Apple's patents seek to solve this problem with "smart gloves" that use magnetic fields.Detects the distance between the finger and the back of the hand using a magnetic field
Many of the VR headsets released today require a handheld controller to operate. However, while the positional relationship between the headset and this controller can detect where the hand is, it cannot accurately detect where and in what state each finger is. Also, "grabbing" things are essential for a more natural VR experience, which can be difficult to do in a natural way on systems that require a controller. Apple, which is said to be developing Apple glasses and VR headsets, is trying to solve this problem with "smart gloves" that use magnetism . Registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), this patent incorporates a magnetic field generator on the back side of the glove. Then, by detecting the magnetic field with the magnetic sensor attached to each fingertip, the distance between the magnetic sensor and the magnetic field generator can be detected . If you hold your finger, the distance will be closer, and if you open your finger, the distance will be longer, so you will be able to detect the movement of each finger and create a better VR experience.
Further improvement of VR experience is possible
Furthermore, by using multiple magnetic field generators, it is possible to identify the three-dimensional position of each finger . This may even detect complex hand gestures. In addition, by incorporating a touch sensor, actuator for tactile feedback, temperature sensor, heater, etc. at the fingertips of the smart glove, it is possible to realize a more realistic VR experience . Regarding Apple glasses, various patents have been applied for by Apple, such as detecting the degree of concentration of users and unlocking automatic terminals. There is also information that Apple's VR headset will be available in the first quarter of 2022 (January-March).
